Guilt is a powerful psychological force within us.
Satan knows how to manipulate our feelings of guilt.
|What do you feel when you feel guilty.
||A fear of punishment
||A feeling of depression
||A feeling of isolation and rejection
Childhood - Parents
|When you don’t live up to expectations or do
||They react with anger - Punishment
||They might shame you for your behaviour. This brings depression.
|| They might subtly reject you by sending you to your room, or say
‘Get out of my sight’. Rejection.
|When we grow up we can transfer these feelings from
our parents onto God
||We might feel he is punishing us
||We might feel he is saying ‘Shame on You, you know better than
might expect him to withdraw His presence from us. Like being sent to your
1 John 3v21 ‘if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence
|Guilt of any intensity makes us miserable.
||Some give up……
||Others get angry. They decide to fight back.
||Others still rationalise their guilt.
Adam and Eve…………….. They decided to
Genesis 3 v7
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and
they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made
coverings for themselves.
How did God cover them………………
Genesis 3v 21 The Lord God made
garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them
The first sacrifice…….. the first shedding of
blood. Innocent blood shed for the sinfulness of man.
Other people act very differently to these three types of people.
They relieve the pressure
of guilt by asking God for forgiveness, but they have no intentions of
He’s not really sorry
for the action ONLY for being caught.
The right reaction is laid down in
7-- 9yet now I am happy,
not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to
repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not
harmed in any way by us. 10Godly sorrow brings repentance that
leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
Repentance = metanoia
a change of mind, a new knowledge, a new understanding, of a purpose he has formed or
of something he has done.
This brings ‘epistrepho’ which is literally ……….Converted……….to turn,
to go another way.
Acts 26v18 to open their eyes (Revelation) and
turn them (Convert them) from darkness to light, and from the power of
Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins.
The answer to man’s guilt is found in
Romans 1v16-17For in the gospel a righteousness
from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,
just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
The gospel is given as a revelation of righteousness.
RIGHTEOUSNESS — holy and upright living, in accordance with God’s standard. The word
“righteousness” comes from a root word that means “straightness.”
Righteousness is a moral concept. Morally right (with decency, with integrity, with
honesty, with honour) ……..
virtuous (honourable, upright, honest)…….. law abiding…..
God’s character is the definition and source of all righteousness
(Deut. 32:4; 4 He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.).
His name will be called “The Lord Our Righteousness” (Jehovah-tsidkenu).
It’s the key to living gloriously:
2 Corinthians 5v21God made him who had no sin to be sin
for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God
It’s a divine exchange
Our sinfulness for HIS righteousness. Not to be worked at
Romans 10v 10For it is with your heart that you
believe unto righteousness (NKJV)
Satan will accuse you of being rotten to the core, that God is going to judge you,
that you are not good enough to serve God. The answer to our guilt lies in
a realisation of our righteousness, and the blood of Jesus Christ.
Romans 5v9 Therefore, since we are now justified (acquitted, made righteous,
and brought into right relationship with God) by Christ's blood, how much
more [certain is it that] we shall be saved by Him from the wrath of God. Amplified Bible.
11And they have overcome (conquered)
him (the Accuser) by means of the blood of the Lamb and by the utterance
of their testimony, for they did not love and cling to life even when
faced with death [holding their lives cheap till they had to die for their
witnessing]. Amplified Bible.
The Blood that flowed in His veins was perfect.
Why is it so powerful today?
Hebrews 9:12 gives us an answer. “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but
by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”
It is that Blood that cleanses me from sin.
The oldest boy child in the home would be slain by the death angel.
Take the blood and sprinkle it on the two sideposts of the door and the
lintel over top of the door.
The Believers Testimony:
In Revelation 12:11, the Bible says that the believers overcame the Devil by
the Blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.
Our testimony is like the hyssop that daily applies the Blood to our lives.
We must declare before the Devil, before God, and even more importantly
before ourselves what the Blood does for us.
At this point, the Blood becomes a spiritual weapon. It becomes
a great power against the invasion of the Devil.
It stops his most powerful tool of oppression.
Ephesians 1:7, “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of His grace.”
1. According to Ephesians 1:7,
By the Blood of Jesus, I am redeemed, bought back out of the hand of the Devil
2. According to Ephesians 1:7,
By the Blood of Jesus, all my sins are completely forgiven.
1 John 1:7, “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one
with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.”
3. According to 1 John 1:7,
The Blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, continually cleanses me from all sin.
Romans 5:9,“Much more then, being now justified (made righteous) by his blood, we shall be
saved from wrath through him
4. According to Romans 5:9,
By the Blood of Jesus, I am justified, made righteous just as if I had never sinned.
Hebrews 13:12,“12And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to
make the people holy through his own blood
5. According to Hebrews 13:12
By the Blood of Jesus, I am sanctified, made holy, set apart unto God.
1 Corinthians 6:19, 20,“19Do you not know that your body is a temple of
the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are
not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honour
God with your body
6. According to 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20,
My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, redeemed, forgiven, cleansed,
made righteous, and sanctified. Therefore, Satan has no place in me and no
power over me. I renounce him and loose myself from him by the Blood of
